Vacation: Mexico Part 2
The one thing we knew we had to see while in Mexico was Chichen Itza, the famous pyramid and one of the "new" 7 wonders of the world!
We took a tour that picked us up at our hotel at 7:15am (yikes!) and we drove, and drove, and drove until we finally reached Chichen Itza. I didn't know what to expect on our drive, but I was very surprised to see so much greenery! I guess I had some silly idea that all of Mexico was dry (wow how naive I can be!)! The picture below shows what the entire drive looked like. Two lane highway and trees as far as the eye could see! Oh, and if you're ever driving in Mexico, apparently stop signs are just a suggestion!
Chichen Itza is stunning! It's amazing walking around it imagining what it was like back when the Mayan people lived there. If you're ever in the area, definitely take a tour to see it. Just be prepared, it's ridiculously hot and humid, and most tours start super early with a long drive out there, so bring a snack or two since lunch isn't until 2 in the afternoon!
We grabbed lunch at a local place and got entertained by dancers! They danced with bottles on their heads, and even full trays with bottles and cups on their heads!
After lunch we headed to the Samula Cenote, a gorgeous underground cave, were we got to cool off and go swimming! It's definitely on the top of my list of most amazing things I've ever gotten to do!
The last stop on our trip was to the colonial town of Valladolid. It's a cute little town. We only had a few minutes to wonder around, but it was nice to explore for the few minutes we did have!
Up next... our visit to the town of Playa Del Carmen!
